Honoring Dr. Rivero Dr. Manny Rivero had many friends throughout the North Texas Filipino community. When he died of cancer in February, a lot of Filipinos packed his funeral Mass. But his friends decided to do more. They honored their beloved doctor with a celebration Sunday. And what a celebration it was — with music, dancing and an array of native foods. The event started with a Mass by the Rev. Manny Sabando at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Irving. Then guests moved into the Parish Hall for about four hours of tributes. They learned about the doctor’s life — he was born in the Philippines, met his wife Angelina in medical school (she’s also a doctor), came to the States for his internship and established his practice in Kaufman. They had four children — Penny Rivero, Joey Rivero, Jeannie Rivero and Sally Rivero.
The family said a few words to close the program. As their father touched others, they said they were touched by the love shown for him and them.
