MUST FILE 2007 TAX RETURN NLT APRIL 18 TO CLAIM REFUND

HURRY! Please include the following information in your online newspaper no later than (NLT) Monday, April 18, 2011. Taxpayers who believe they can receive a tax refund for TY 2007, must file their 2007 federal income tax returns no later than (NLT) April 18, 2011!

Taxpayers’ FY 2007 federal income tax returns must be mailed and post marked no later than (NLT) 12 midnight on Monday, April 18, 2011.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites provide FREE tax preparation and FREE electronic filing for taxpayers who had adjusted gross income (AGI) of less than $49,000 in 2010 and less than $40,000 in 2007.

Taxpayers should phone 1-800-906-9887 to find their nearest VITA site. They should call 1-888-227-7669 to find their closest TCE site.

Taxpayers who visit a VITA or TCE site, must have photo ID and social security cards for everyone claimed on the return. Taxpayers must also have all Forms W-2; 1099; 1098; and other records of income/expenses for 2007.

IF a VITA or TCE site can prepare a TY 2007 federal income tax return, the 2007 tax return can NOT be electronically filed. The taxpayer must mail his/her TY 2007 federal income tax return to the IRS before 12 midnight on Monday, April 18, 2011.

ALSO – if a taxpayer would prefer to prepare his/her own TY 2007 federal tax return, he or she should click on the links shown below. The taxpayer should click on “prior year” shown under “Resources” below.
