A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO DR. MANNY RIVERO

A loving, caring father and husband, physician and community leader

April 28, 1946 – February 25, 2011

"It is a sad day for the Filipino community. Every once in our lifetime, we are blessed with the friendship of a great man, a dedicated community leader who lived and died serving his community and his thousands of patients. Have you ever had a friend who is so giving, so kind and so unselfish that when he says goodbye, you just don’t want to let him go? You want him to stay around for just a little longer, so he can continue to give and share more of his warm and immeasurable love, his amazing capacity to care, and yes, his music, his special brand of music that we loved and will miss hearing.

As his oldest daughter Penny so eloquently said at the service last night, in a world that is so angry, so chaotic and so selfish, Dr. Manny stood out like a beacon of light in the darkness, because he was so kind and so loving. He was so well liked and loved by everyone, he never met anybody he did not like, and never met anybody who did not like him. One of his legacies that is the most difficult for us to emulate is his enormous capacity to care. Amazingly, he lived his life without ever being disliked by a single soul. That is so rare, especially with community leaders. He touched so many lives with his kindness and his simple but elegant outlook on life..." (Gus Mercado, Executive Director, Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Texas).

After a treacherous battle with an advanced stage of Multiple Myeloma (MM), our beloved father, husband, uncle, and brother, Manuel S. Rivero, M.D., peacefully passed away on the morning of Friday, February 25, 2011, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.  Our family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for the kind words and prayers of support you have offered us during this hard fought journey.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider honoring our father's spirit of healing, service and love by sending contributions in his name to one of the organizations listed below. Please feel free to pass this information on to other loved ones or those who may have known him.

International Myeloma Foundation (IMF):

Multiple Myeloma affects the central nervous system (CNS) in only 1% of Myeloma patients.  When dad discovered how rare this was, he expressed his hope for more future research to help find a cure. The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) helps fund genetic research to better understand the link between MM and the central nervous system.
